FAQ

Please call 831-262-6429 or email season@reclaimfit.com. We can set up a 15 minute phone call where we go over any goals, questions or expectations you may have. If we decide we're a good fit, we will discuss my packages and pricing and we can move on to scheduling our first session!

2. What will I need for my first session?

We will be doing some low-moderate movement, so please arrive in clothes that are comfortable and allow you to move freely. The exercises we are doing will be low-impact and can be done with or without shoes- whichever you prefer. If you would like to wear shoes make sure they are also comfortable and suitable for movement.

I have everything we need here at the studio, or I will bring it with me if traveling, so please don't worry about bringing any of your own equipment. Some of my clients like to bring their own yoga/exercise mat. You are welcome to do that, but also know that my studio has heavy-duty gym mat flooring and I have yoga mats available here as well.

I also usually have water available, but I suggest you bring your own as well.

3. What are your COVID protocols?

I am doing my best to follow current local guidelines pertaining to COVID protocols as they change.

I have a HEPA filter running at all times during the session. When weather allows, I also keep the door and window open to allow for air flow.

4. What kind of exercises will we be doing during our sessions?

At first, we will be doing mostly low-impact, extension-based exercises that focus on the strengthening of key muscle groups that assist in stabilization and functional movement. Basically, think slow, subtle, but effective movements. As we advance, we may add in some higher-impact exercises when we both agree you are ready for them. This is not a bootcamp- I focus a lot more on the quality of your movement as opposed to the quantity.

5. Where will we be training?

It's your choice!

I have my own studio gym that I have established on my home property in Prunedale, CA. I am doing my best to make this space into a haven where my clients feel comfortable, accepted and free to move. Having an environment separate from your home and work can help you to disconnect from the thoughts, worries and responsibilities of the day-to-day and truly take some time to "reset."

I am willing to travel to my clients' homes or to neutral spaces (like a park) within the Salinas/Monterey Peninsula area. I do have a travel fee, which we can discuss during our initial phone call. Unfortunately, I do not currently have any partnerships with gyms, so I am unable to meet up with any gyms in the area as of right now.

6. Who do you typically train?

I specialize in training bodies in the perinatal stage (either prenatal or postpartum). I have a particular passion for training people within the postpartum period. I am currently completing another Pre and Postnatal strength-training certification through Girls Gone Strong that will further strengthen my knowledge and skill in this area.

7. What if I'm not a perinatal woman? Can I still train with you?

As noted above, my specialty lies within the prenatal and postpartum space. That being said, many people think of "postpartum" as directly postpartum- meaning within 6 months to 1 year of having a baby. In my opinion, the changes our bodies go through as a result of being pregnant and/or giving birth carry on long after the birth of our baby- perhaps effecting us for the rest of our lives. Therefore, my idea of postpartum often includes people that are many years past their "perinatal" experience.

The exercises and movements that I use can be very relevant to anyone who is looking for more stabilization and functional movement in their day-to-day life. If this sounds relevant to you in any way, give me a call or send me an email and we'll discuss whether or not we'll be a good fit.

Also, if you identify with the LGBTQIA+ community, please see question number 8.

8. Do you welcome members of the LGBTQIA+ community?

It is my goal and desire to create a welcoming and affirming space for all bodies. My specialty lies within the prenatal and postpartum space and, thus, the vast majority of my clientelle at this time identify as women. Of course, this specialty is also hugely relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community. If you identify as part of this community, you are always welcome here and I would love to work with you. I am still learning what I can do to best support you, so please reach out if you have any questions or suggestions.

For more information on finding affirming spaces within the fitness industry please take a look at the following website: www.decolonizingfitness.com and follow them @decolonizing_fitness on instagram. I have found their content very helpful.

9. I don't feel like I'm in good enough shape to start training. What should I do?

As noted above, it is my goal to create a welcoming and affirming space for all bodies. As it says on our front page, "You are already strong. You are already beautiful. You and your body deserve love." I believe this applies to everyone. Period.

Everyone has a different relationship and history with movement. It is my goal to meet everyone where they are, right now. Before we begin, every client fills out a medical questionnaire that will help me build a program that is safe and appropriate. I am here to help support you as you embark on your own movement journey. I have some tools that may help you gain more functionality, flexibility and stability. Ultimately, you are in charge here. You will never be pressured to do anything you are not comfortable with.

10. I want to lose weight. Can you help me with that?

Here, at Reclaim Fitness, although we do not believe weight goals are inherently "bad", we do not believe weight is a direct indicator of health and we highly encourage our clients to focus on goals that are more centered on strength or other health outcomes. We often stress the importance of understanding why you are embarking on your movement journey and allow that to inform your goals.

Feel free to call 831-262-6429 or email reclaimfitnessllc@gmail.com so that we can chat more about your goals and determine if we're a good fit.

11. Do you do large/small group sessions or classes?

Yes! I typically hold free exercise classes on the first Sunday of the month at Toro Park in Salinas at 1:00 pm every month. It is postpartum and prenatal friendly and often consists of a low-impact workout and stroller friendly walk. There is no childcare available, but children are welcome to join.

I also offer a cohort program for postpartum bodies that is presented in a group format. For more information, please email season@reclaimfit.com.

12. I have kids and I'm not sure how I'm going to find the time/childcare so we can do our sessions.

The struggle is real! Being a primary care-giver myself, I can understand. Give me a call at 831-262-6429 or email season@reclaimfit.com and we can discuss options. Although I do not currently have childcare available for my clients, I am open to having small children attend our sessions if that is what is needed to help you get some much-needed movement.

Also, my postpartum program, the Reconnect, Rethink, Revive Masterclass is largely online and is structured around the idea that we will likely have kids around while exercising. If you are interested in learning more, please email season@reclaimfit.com.
